He sought sanctuary in the United Staes of America.
At his immigration interview, the officials asked him why they should let him in to the country.
He replied, “The fascists just wiped out my entire family. If you let me in, I will help you fight to defeat them.”
They did, and he did. Served with honor in the Pacific Basin to defeat the imperialist Japanese.
To me, remembering the Holocaust means never forgetting the evil of tyranny, and committing to never, ever let it prosper.
This is the mission of every Jew, and every Freedom-loving human being.
