The right reason to get active

In this essay, Dennis Prager shows the falseness of trying to do good through “political activism.” He encourages a return to traditional religious living as a true path for being a moral person.

No doubt, it takes a good person to do good.

And, I agree that fighting for causes and attending protests are mainly about feeling good and not doing good. But I would add this: real political activism is now needed more than ever. Families, communities, and our nation as a whole are being threatened by tyrannical forces.

We all need to get involved at every level of government, from the local school board to federal agencies. The “cause” here is the preservation of freedom and liberty. I can’t think of a better reason to fight.

“Since the early 1960s and ’70s, a moral life has been defined as engaging in activism. One improves America—indeed, one becomes a good person—by fighting for a cause. That cause may be feminism, environmentalism, socialism, material equality, racial equality, LGBTQ+ liberation, or the welfare state—free health care, free college tuition, free preschool, free daycare, free school breakfasts and lunches, even free income.”
